Boardgame Review: Dixit

A picture is worth a thousand words and we find that quite true because this game will really test your power of description. Dixit is a 3-6 player game for ages 8+. In Dixit, each player takes the role of a storyteller and during his turn he will be describing the photos he have in his hand. The game contains wonderful and whimsical artworks that are visually stimulating and will cause the player a word vomit of adjectives all throughout the game.

The game starts with all the players selecting a BUNNY TOKEN of their chosen color, these bunnies will be set on the starting point of the boardgame. Each round when a player scores a point, the tokens would advance depending on the number of points each player can score. Whoever reaches 30 points first wins the game.

The game begins as all the players are dealt a set of cards in their hand. All players will be dealt 6 cards each and on a player's turn, he will choose 1 picture to describe without showing the other players what his chosen card is. His description mustn't be too obvious or too vague. Then, the other players will choose a card on their hand that best matches the description of the story teller. They will hand over their chosen card face down to the story teller and he will shuffle and lay down the cards face up as he repeats his description of his own card.

Then from there, each player will try to guess which one among all the picture cards is the card of the storyteller. Points will be given to a correct guess and the player who scores advances his token in the board. First to reach the end wins the game. Cards that are mistaken as the storyteller's card also scores a point! If nobody guesses the storyteller's card NOBODY scores a point, even the storyteller cannot score a point if nobody got the answer correct.

The box contains a lot of picture cards and it comes with very cute player tokens. The board is also very unique for it is slim and elongated. The instructions are very easy to understand and it is worth every peso! I can see this game being enjoyed by adults and kids alike.

We first tried Dixit during Gaming Library's All aBoard event last July 2017. It is quite intoxicating and the minute we played it I found myself reaching for my wallet to purchase a copy for our group. It is a very light game to start up and fuel our imagination and word play.

We give this game a 7.5/10
Happy Playing Everyone!
